Review: Maybelline 14 Hour Lipstick

By  |  2 Comments

Over the last month or so I’ve become REALLY interested in lipstick.  Up until now I wasn’t interested in it at all because I didn’t really care for the maintenance it requires throughout the day.  I had tried products like Covergirl Outlast and hated the way they made my lips feel and I felt like the colors were too harsh.  I generally like for my lips to look soft with a hint of color and the typical long-wearing lipsticks just didn’t do it for me.

From Left to Right: 010 “Ultimate Blush” and 005 “Perpetual Peony”

Naturally when I heard that Maybelline had come out with a lipstick that claimed to wear for 14 hours without drying I was ALL over it.  Of course I had to wait months after it was released in the States to try it out but a few weeks ago I picked up a few tubes and put this 14 hour lipstick to the test.

I applied Ultimate Blush before heading out to run some errands and I just used a nude lipliner all over the lip and then applied the lipstick.  I made sure to not use a gloss or anything that could make the lipstick rub off earlier than it would normally because I wanted to make sure that the results I saw were 100% true.

Top: Perpetual Peony
Bottom: Ultimate Blush

My first impression was that this lipstick is extremely pigmented and goes on smoothly.  It seems to dry quickly on the lips and doesn’t budge at all.  Under normal circumstances when I wear lipstick I’m lucky to get out of the house with it still on my lips but with this it stayed really well.  I’ll be honest, though, it reminded me of the longwearing lipsticks I dislike so much and I was a little sad.  It feels more like a lip stain once it is dry and could REALLY benefit from a gloss or balm on the top. However, I refrained from applying any because I was putting this bad boy to the test.

This was taken about 5 minutes after the initial application.

About an hour after it was applied.  The color is great but look at how dry my lips are!

Three hours after applying the product.  I had also eaten lunch shortly before this picture was taken and the color still looked pretty good.

All in all, this lipstick lasted around 4 hours from start to finish until the lipstick was completely worn off.    Although it is a FAR cry from the 14 hours that Maybelline claims, 4 hours without any touchups is pretty amazing!
Would I recommend this lipstick to you all?  Definitely yes.  The range of colors is really nice and I think that 4 hours is great for a lipstick.  The pigmentation is also really good and for the price, it can’t be beat.

Until next time :)

Perpetual Peony has been a consistent favorite of mine for weeks! It’s super bright but I love it! It would look great on you :)
