Have I mentioned my obsession with lipstick lately? I’m pretty sure that I have.
Raise your hand if you’re surprised at all that I completely FLIPPED OUT when I saw these in CVS on Christmas.
I may have referred to it as a “Christmas Miracle”
Anyway – Maybelline recently released a new line of lipstick called “Color Whisper” and I picked up three of them on a recent FiS jaunt in CVS. For a full explanation of what FiS is and to see what I picked up check out this post or check out my friend Emmie’s post here.
Actually you should just check out both posts and then come back here.
Either way, I had seen a few Instagram pictures of these products but wasn’t sure what they were all about so in the name of beauty blogging I opened up my heart (and wallet) to give three of these a good home in my makeup stash.
I picked up Bare To Be Bold, Pink Possibilities, and Rose of Attraction; a nude, a soft pink, and a berry pink. I was most excited to try Bare To Be Bold because who doesn’t love a good nude lipstick/gloss? You all know I do!
Upon first glance it seemed like these were Maybelline’s answer to the Revlon Lip Butters or the L’Oreal Colour Caresse but they’re not exactly like either product and instead seem to be a great combination of the two. It’s almost as if Maybelline took the shine and texture of the Revlon Lip Butter and the pigmentation and longevity of the Colour Caresse and combined these super powers to create the PERFECT lip product known to man.
Actually, now that I think about it, that’s exactly what happened. There’s no other explanation.
In all seriousness though, these provide great moisture to my dry lips (a much welcomed quality during these colder days for sure!) as well as great pigmentation. The pigmentation isn’t opaque but is definitely enough to make it look like you’re actually wearing something on your lips. It provides (just slightly) more pigmentation than a Revlon Lip Butter will give you but it isn’t full on lipstick like the L’Oreal Colour Caresse… it’s pretty much right in the middle and I like it!
The color I was most impressed with was Bare To Be Bold because it actually is a perfect nude color for my skin tone! I have a feeling that a lot of people will be comparing this to Revlon’s lip butter in “Creme Brulee” and I have anticipated this by swatching them side by side for you so you can make the decision for yourself:
While the Revlon swatch is darker (and the Maybelline swatch seems to be invisible) the Maybelline suits my coloring much better. Score! It actually does a great job at canceling out my natural lip coloring to give that nude (but not dead) look and I’m obsessed. I’ll probably be posting tons of pictures on Instagram after this post so feel free to follow me there 🙂
Speaking of dupes I did find that Rose of Attraction and Revlon’s Berry Smoothie are pretty much the same thing. Check it out:
Rose of Attraction is just slightly lighter than Berry Smoothie but they’re close enough for me!
These products don’t have incredibly long wear time but I honestly didn’t expect them to last all day if for nothing but their creamy, moisturizing texture. It’s common knowledge that “slippery” lip products don’t hold as well as matte/dry products do so I don’t consider this a disappointment at all.
Overall I really, really love these! I have seen a few other bloggers mention that they’re not being released until January so if you can’t find them in your local stores now then keep your eyes out!
What do you think? Have you seen these in your local stores lately? Do you think you’ll try them out? Comment below and let me know!
Until next time 🙂
