Ok, so remember in this post where I talked about how there was some drama with Google Reader? I didn’t explain it then but I’m going to do my best to share my thoughts on the demise of Google Reader with you now…
Here’s the deal: Google announced last week that they would be discontinuing Google Reader as of July 1, 2013. For those of you who don’t use this product or maybe don’t know what it does, it is Google’s version of an RSS reader that allows users to subscribe to their favorite blog’s RSS feeds and read new posts all in one spot. RSS readers are a great idea and can be an excellent tool if you find that you follow a lot of blogs and don’t want to miss anything. I, personally, never really got into them but that’s neither here nor there.
Either way, what does this mean for Beauty 101? Well, I have recently created an account over on BlogLovin‘ which is a free service that allows you to subscribe to blogs and read them all in one place. Sound familiar? BlogLovin’ is my favorite alternative to Google Reader and I urge you all to sign up for an account so you can follow your favorite blogs. They even have an app for smart phones so you can read on the go!
If you’re worried about the switch from Google Reader to BlogLovin’ don’t be! You can import your GFC/Google Reader links directly to your BlogLovin’ account in about 30 seconds. Sign up for an account and select the “Settings” option from the drop down menu in the top right corner. Towards the bottom of that page you should see the option to import blogs as shown below:
It hasn’t officially been announced yet but there is some serious speculation out there that leads a lot of bloggers to believe that with the demise of Google Reader will come the eventual cut of GFC from Google’s blogging services. The theory behind this is that Google Reader is the software that fuels GFC so without it GFC will be essentially useless. Now, if you have a blogger account you will still get the post feed on your blogger dashboard but for those of you who don’t you may not be able to get all your posts in one place any longer.
Have I mentioned that you all should sign up for BlogLovin’ RIGHT NOW?
I would be eternally grateful if you all would go over and sign up to follow Beauty 101. As of right now I have over 1,100 followers on GFC but have only about 1/10 of that amount on BlogLovin’. I understand that a lot of people may not use the service because of whatever reason but I’d hate to lose you all because of Google’s ridiculous ways. Please do me a favor and subscribe!
Have I begged enough? Probably!
Until next time 🙂
