Remember when we were younger and were actually excited about shaving our legs? What ever happened to those days? When did shaving become such a chore?
For me shaving became a chore when I started to get frequent, intense ingrown hairs on my legs. I don’t know why my body all of a sudden decided that this would be a cool thing to do but nonetheless I am plagued by ingrown hairs on a regular basis. I’ve tried shaving, waxing, threading – you name it! Luckily for you I’ve figured out how to prevent them:
1) Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Ingrown hairs are more likely to happen when there are excess skin cells blocking the hair follicle. By exfoliating regularly (especially before shaving) you’ll keep those dead skin cells to a minimum!
2) Shave with the grain, not against. I know, I know – we were all taught to shave against the grain for the closest shave but it may be that close shave that’s getting those of us with ingrown hairs in trouble. By cutting the hair below the surface you are creating the perfect environment for a hair to become ingrown. By shaving with the grain of your hair you’ll have to shave more often because it won’t be as close but you’ll cut down on ingrown so it’s totally worth it!
3) Use a Hair Removal Cream Instead of Shaving. Hair Removal Cream dissolves the hair instead of cutting it off it drastically reduces your chances of getting ingrown hairs. I also feel like the hair is thinner and softer when it grows back so I don’t have such prickly legs.
I’ve tried all of the major hair removal cream brands and Hot Legs Hair Removal Cream is by far my favorite. It doesn’t burn my skin, leave any red marks, and best of all it doesn’t smell! Well, okay, it has a scent but it definitely doesn’t have that smell that other chemical hair removers tend to have. You all know what I’m talking about.
Because Hot Legs Hair Removal Cream dissolves the hair instead of cutting it off it drastically reduces your chances of getting ingrown hairs. I also feel like the hair is thinner and softer when it grows back so I don’t have such prickly legs.
After using my hair removal cream I like to follow up with moisturizer to keep everything nice and soft. Hot Legs After Waxing Oil is perfect for me! Even though I’m not waxing my legs I still like to use this oil because it has tea tree oil in it to help disinfect and keep everything nice and clean while still providing moisture. The oil is on the drier side, too, so it’s really nice to spray on in the summer if you want your legs to have a gorgeous glow.
The combination of hair removal cream and oil based moisturizer has drastically improved my ingrown hair! I love that hair removal cream is inexpensive, easy to use, and can be purchased at major retailers nationwide. I bought my Hot Legs products at Duane Reade in New York City which is convenient since there is one on every corner. I mean, I walk a half mile each way to work and there are three Duane Reade stores on my route. If that’s not convenient I don’t know what is!
It’s also bad for my wallet since I’m always perusing the beauty products but hey – you can’t win them all.
Am I the only one who suffers from crazy ingrown hair? Comment below and let me know what you do to combat this issue!
Until next time 🙂
