So… can we talk about the fact that May is two thirds of the way over? I feel like I’m still struggling to remember to write 2014 on things (my default is still 2013) which is ridiculous because 2014 is pretty much half over! I can’t handle this. But you know what I can handle? Summer barbecues, picnics, and trips. You can sign me up for those any day of the week!
Speaking of summer barbecues, get togethers, and trips — every year on Memorial Day I find myself in New Jersey celebrating my cousin’s birthday (he’s going to be 13 this year… whoa) with my family. The weekend is always full of hilarious events and delicious food and the trip just really kicks off the summer season for me. Even though the entire trip from my apartment to my aunt’s house in New Jersey only takes about an hour and a half door to door I still find myself stocking up on all my travel essentials before I head to Penn Station. Luckily Duane Reade has me covered for all my travel and Memorial Day weekend needs!
The first thing I need to have for my train ride is a magazine (I like to read People when I’m traveling, not sure why) and a few delicious snacks. I am legitimately obsessed with the Good & Delish Sea Salt Caramels in a very serious way. Obsessed probably isn’t even the right word to describe my feelings towards this product. Let’s just put it this way – if I was left to my own devices I would probably eat the entire box in one sitting. It’s a problem. This time around I also decided to grab something I’ve never tried before, Dark Chocolate Munchy Bites with pumpkin seeds, cashews, almonds, and pistachios surrounded by dark chocolate. The fact that the Munchy Bites contain nuts makes me think it’s healthy, haha.
Like I mentioned before, my cousin’s birthday always falls on Memorial Day weekend so of course I had to make sure I grabbed something for the birthday boy! I am a creature of convenience so I don’t like to run around to a million different stores when I could just get everything I need from one. That’s why I love shopping at Duane Reade – they legitimately have everything! I made sure to pick up a birthday card and an iTunes gift card for the birthday boy. I’m not a 13 year old boy, obviously, and I don’t have kids so I figured that this was an okay gift… hopefully he thinks the same! What do you even buy 13 year olds these days?!
No trip is complete without travel beauty accessories, am I right? I’ve been obsessed with travel sized beauty products ever since I was a little girl… there is just something so appealing about tiny products that you can toss in your bag and I don’t understand why I’m so in love with them. Technically I don’t even need travel sized beauty items since I’m not flying anywhere but you know what? I picked them up anyway because I have no self control. What did you expect with body wash scents like Pomegranate Lychee? For $1.59 I couldn’t resist!
Side note – Memorial Day weekend or not I carry these Duane Reade nail polish remover pads with me everywhere I go. You never know when your nail polish is going to chip and you’ll need to remove it quickly as to avoid looking like a hot mess!
If you and I are ever shopping together and I mysteriously disappear look for me here ^^. I’ll probably be found obsessing over all the tiny beauty products, haha.
I’m so excited about my Memorial Day trip this year! Last year it was surprisingly chilly which didn’t really make for a great barbecue and outdoor party. This year, though, I just know it’s going to be fantastic! And now that my bag is appropriately packed I know my trip to New Jersey will be smooth and effortless… I mean, I’ve got my sea salt caramels so I’m pretty much good to go!
What are you doing this Memorial Day? Do you have any special plans? If you’re traveling how do you prepare for your trip? Comment below and let me know! And don’t forget to keep up with Duane Reade on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
Until next time 🙂
