Um… I can’t even write this post coherently because I keep getting distracted by the amazing neons included as part of the Color Club Poptastic Collection! I mean… JUST LOOK AT THEM. I have been on the hunt for the best neon nail polish and let me tell you, I think I may have found it!
The Poptastic Collection is the newest release from Color Club and it includes 6 incredibly gorgeous neon shimmers that are literally to die for. The overall formula was pretty easy to work with though the one color I was most excited about, Not-So-Mellow-Yellow, was pretty thick and hard to work with. Other than that, though, the formula on each color was smooth and opaque in two coats. As you might know most other neon nail polishes work best when they’re applied over white polish but these bad boys were applied straight out of the bottle and on to my bare nails. No white base coat needed and the color saturation is still insane!
But okay – enough of my rambling. Let’s talk swatches, shall we?
Right On is a pretty neon purple with a very subtle light purple micro-shimmer to it. That’s something that you’ll notice throughout this collection – the shimmer is very understated and soft and the color is typically on-tone with the base color of the polish. Right On applied evenly in two coats with opaque coverage.
Kapow! reminds me a lot of Jackie Oh! which is another neon pink polish that is part of Color Club’s permanent line. Kapow is a touch deeper and, unlike Jackie Oh!, contains a light pink micro-shimmer. It also went on with a smooth formula and was opaque after two coats.
Peace, Love, + Polish might be my favorite out of the Poptastic Collection. It is a gorgeous pinky coral that has a soft golden micro-shimmer and I just love it! I know you’re probably tired of hearing this but… yes, it went on smoothly and was opaque after two coats.
Um, hello Foxy Mama! This traffic cone orange glows in the dark with it’s orange micro-shimmer and I’m calling it right now – this is going to be my pedicure color this summer. It’s so bright and fun!
(yes… it went on smoothly… opaque after to coats… you know what I’m going to say)
Bell Bottom Babe was probably my least favorite out of the collection only because it’s not what I would consider a neon. It’s still a gorgeous color, don’t get me wrong, and it’s magenta micro-shimmer gives it a really fun and unique quality but overall I just wasn’t in love.
Not-So-Mellow Yellow was a color that I was SO EXCITED about. I might have let out a little cry of joy when I opened my box and saw it but those feelings quickly went out the window when I tried to swatch it. Unfortunately the formula on this one isn’t as smooth as the others and is instead really thick and unmanageable. I found that I really had to lay it on thick to get a smooth application because otherwise it dragged and pulled all over my nails. I’m going to try to thin it out a little bit and see if I can get it to work because, ugh, I want to love it so badly!
See what I mean about the understated shimmer? I love that each color has a subtle tone-on-tone shimmer to it because I feel like it makes the polish shine and sparkle without being obnoxious or overpowering.
Oh, and don’t mind my stained nails. Let’s just call that #hairstylistproblems, shall we? Hair color will forever be the death of my nails.
