I think we can all agree that being unprepared is the worst thing ever, right? It always happens to me without fail – I’ll be getting ready to head to a major event and what do you know, I realize that I’ve forgotten to put on deodorant or bam! A migraine strikes out of nowhere. Seriously – every single time something happens and then I’m like ‘Ugh, why didn’t I pack anything?!” My friends and family always joke that I’m a Girl Scout because I’m pretty much prepared for anything but you know why that is? Because by now I’ve learned that I can’t leave the house without my little DIY emergency beauty kit because if I do something catastrophic WILL happen and ruin my day. Don’t be caught unprepared! Check out my favorite emergency beauty items and put together your own beauty emergency kit!
Without fail I always bring with me:
Pain Reliever: Um, hello. This one needs no explanation. Whether it’s a migraine, a random injury (I once dislocated my knee at a cousin’s wedding reception. True story), or a hangover-remedy for the morning after you’re going to wish that you had some sort of pain reliever. I guarantee it.
Travel Size Deodorant: Again, another that doesn’t need any justification. Do you want to be smelly? I don’t think so. We’re approaching the summer months here, kids… let’s be prepared.
Sewing Kit: In all honesty this is probably one that you could take or leave depending on where you’re going and what you’re wearing. But if you think that there’s any chance that a button is going to pop off at an inopportune moment or anything like that just throw it in the bag and rest assured that you’re prepared for anything and everything.
Clear Nail Polish: This can be used for ANYTHING. Get a run in your tights? Seal it with polish so it doesn’t continue to ruin your entire outfit. Chip a nail? Prevent it from chipping any further by putting a thin layer of clear polish over it. Need to seal an envelope but don’t want to use your tongue to lick it or ruin your lipstick? Clear polish to the rescue! Seriously – everyone should carry a bottle with them at all times.
Bobby Pins: This is another item that has a thousand and one uses. If you’ve got an elaborate hairstyle and it starts to fall prematurely you’re going to be happy that you have these handy so you can stop it in its tracks. I also like to carry a few with me even when I am wearing my hair down because who knows when the need to put my hair up will strike!
Hair Ties: Again, like with the example above, you’ll never know when you need to get your hair out of your face so you definitely want to be prepared!
Lip Balm: Chapped lips… enough said. Even if you bring your lipstick/lip gloss with you for touchups I can guarantee that if your lips start to feel dehydrated that you’re going to wish you had something hydrating to lather on them. Lipstick can only do so much!
Bandaids: Blisters? Pop one of these on and give yourself some temporary relief from the excruciating pain. Give yourself a paper cut on the dinner menu? You’ll be glad you have these!
Blister Block: Without fail I am that girl that forgets to break in her new shoes before an event so naturally I’m also the girl who is hobbling around because her shoes are killing her. Not cute. I love keeping one of these blister block sticks in my bag because they help to reduce friction on your blister-prone areas. They’re great at PREVENTING blisters, though, so if you’re already suffering from one I’d go the bandaid route.
Tissues: I don’t need to tell you what tissues can be used for. But trust me, whether it’s an allergy attack or a particularly moving wedding speech you’re going to be happy that you have a pack of tissues handy. I’m OBSESSED with the slim wallet packs because they’re adorable and they fit comfortably into whatever tiny bag I’m trying to jam all of my junk into.
Tweezers: You just never know when you’re going to need a pair of tweezers, am I right? They’re tiny – toss ’em in the bag and be happy you have them when the time comes.
Stain Remover Pen: Nobody wants to be that person who spills something on themselves and has no way to remove the stain and I think we can all agree that trying to wash it out in the bathroom sink never goes as planned. Keep one of these in your bag and have comfort in knowing that you won’t be that person frantically trying to get their life together after an unexpected clothing stain.
Safety Pins: I was recently at an event and BAM – the hem of my dress (in the back) completely just quit life. Super classy, I assure you. But you know what I was wishing I had? A safety pin or two! Instead of spending all night wondering if people were noticing that my dress was falling apart at the seam I could have snuck away to the bathroom, thrown a few safety pins in, and moved on with my life.
