A few weeks ago I did a post on the best makeup colors for brown eyes and it was such a hit that I decided to put together a mini-series focusing on the best makeup colors for each eye color. Today we’re going to talk about the best makeup colors for blue eyes!
1) Bronze/Terra Cotta/Copper/Rust: The warmth of bronze balances out the cool tones of the blue and creates a gorgeous contrast that is quite striking. If you’re in the mood for something more subtle try lining your eyes in a metallic bronze eyeliner close to your lash line for a pop of color that will help your blue eyes to stand out. Blue and warm tones compliment each other beautifully and these warm metals are no exception!
Try:
Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette
2) Blue and orange are direct compliments to each other on the color wheel so it’s safe to say that orange eyeshadow is one of the best colors possible for blue eyes. If tangerine orange isn’t quite your cup of tea (though I still think you should try it! You might be surprised!) try reaching for a shimmering copper instead.
Try:
Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in “Rio”
MAKE UP FOR EVER Diamond Powder in “Bronze 4”
3)If you’re looking for jewel tones try reaching for purple over cobalt or emerald. Blue eyes tend to get lost in emerald and blue eyeshadows but purple has the right amount of balance between blue and red to help blue eyes stand out.
Try:
Sephora Collection Colorful 5 Eyeshadow Palette
L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in “Perpetual Purple”
4) When going for a smoky eye try to stay away from black and reach for rich brown, gold, and soft pink instead. Black has a tendency to look too artificial and harsh against the light color of blue eyes. Grey even looks phenomenal!
Try:
BareMinerals READY Eyeshadow Quad in “The Happy Place”
5) Turquoise/Navy: This one might come as a shock but hear me out. I know I’ve spent almost this entire post talking about ways to compliment blue eyes with contrasting colors BUT did you know that you can also compliment your blue eyes with the right blue colors? I wouldn’t recommend using blue eyeshadow since it has a tendency to overwhelm blue eyes but turquoise liner or navy mascara is a great option for a fun pop of color to help bring out those baby blues.
Ardency Inn MODSTER Supercharged Eyeliner in “Turquoise”
Sephora Collection Jumbo Liner 12 Hour Wear
NYX Color Mascara in “Blue Dream”
What do you think? If you have blue eyes how do you like to bring them out? Did I list any of your favorite color combinations? Comment below and let me know!
Until next time 🙂
Please, please, please make one about makeup for hazel eyes! Love these posts by the way 🙂
*love XD
Definitely! Hazel eyes are tricky for sure! <3
Beautiful combos for blue eyes! I love using coppery tones for my blue eyes! I definitely can’t wait to try out turquoise eye liner (: my eyes have a hint of gold in the middle so I also like playing with browns and golds. The makeup forever peachy orange looks gorgeous! Purples do wonders with blue eyes, and of course blue mascara is a must (:
I just discovered how nice orange/salmon/coral eyeshadow looks with my blue eyes. I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. Happy to see the color listed here. I don’t think many people realize how nice it looks!
Are you considering doing this for green and hazel eyes? My eyes are more green but are classified as hazel. I’m still learning what’s best for my eye color and your posts are perfect for new makeup users.
I recently did one for green eyes 🙂 You can read it here! >> http://www.beauty101blog.com/2014/08/best-makeup-for-green-eyes/
Hazel eyes are next on the agenda for sure!
I absolutely love this post! I have really blue eyes and I am super excited to try out some new combos I hadn’t thought of before. One of my go to looks is MAC Expensive Pink eyeshadow on the lid with a soft brown crease color and cream highlight color on brow and inner corner, it does wonders for my eyes. Will be pairing this look with a gold/copper line next time and see if it gives some extra oomph!
So glad it helped! Let me know how the copper liner works out for you!
I AM 72 YRS OLD. I HAVE DARK NAVY BLUE EYES AND ARE VERY SMALL. HOW DO I MAKE THEM LARGER WHERE YOU NOTICE THEM!PLEASE EMAIL ME THE ANSWER.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!

Found this post on Pinterest and pinned right away! I use a Clinique Choco-latte eyeshadow quad and Covergirl Exact Eyelights in Black Sapphire which I love.
Maybe do a dont do for blue eyes,or other colors. So people know what makeup not to use.
Would you be able to do one for gray eyes? I just recently realized I have gray eyes and I don’t have many options that make my eyes pop!
Oooh yes! For sure!
I’ve really dark blue eyes which I find is more difficult to complement- all advice i find online is for pale blue eyes… Help!!!!
Ah yes – that is a bit more tricky! Try using deep copper, mahogany, and other rich browns with warm undertones to help accentuate the darker tones and give a smoky look. Or use medium toned versions of the above shades for a neutral/daytime look 🙂 Hope it helps!
Hi Jill,
I also have dark blue eyes, and agree with the colors Casey recommended to you. Another combo I love – light copper or light peach lower on the lid, with brown or purple in the crease, with just about any color liner, makes your eyes pop!
Recommendations for grey eyes? Not washed out blue, but stormy grey (sometimes deep grey, but generally a mid grey). Nearly every other eye color gets love, but I almost never see anything about grey!
oohhhh this is going to be a challenge! Let me see what I can come up with 🙂
Purple will make your blue eyes look green! You can’t expect to make your blue eyes pop by using the colors closer to blue on the color wheel! On the other hand, blues will make blue eyes pop.
I have blue eyes that range from grey to really deep saphire blue depending on my mood. I love to use light pink or white under the brow and alight copper brown over the lid. In the crease o use a darker copper or dark brown. Also for an accent pop of color i like to add a dark purple, green or blue at the edge of my lid where a “winged eyeliner” would go and blend under eyelashes as well. For eyeliner i use an emerald green, bright blue, black or even white in the water line both top and bottom. This really makes my eyes pop and look almost an ocean blue. Its my go to favorite. And it doesnt matter which color my eyes are that day it works will all.
