I’ll be honest – I’m sort of jealous of those of you out there with green eyes – I just find them to be SO gorgeous! Green eyes can be tricky to match to makeup, though, because green’s complimentary color (the color directly across from it on the color wheel that will bring it out most) is red and… I don’t know when I last saw someone seriously wearing red eyeshadow. Do you? That’s why when choosing the best makeup for green eyes it’s important to keep a hint of red in the form of an undertone while keeping the colors soft and feminine. Are you curious to know what I consider to be the best makeup colors for green eyes? Check out my recommendations below!
Taupe: Not just any taupe but warm taupe. Remember how I said that we needed warm/red undertones? Warm taupe colors with a slight golden undertone fit that bill and accentuate green eyes perfectly. Cool toned colors have a tendency to look ashy and juvenile against green eyes so be sure to reach for a golden taupe if you choose to go this route.
ALL Shades of Purple: Green eyed beauties are in luck because they can wear any and all shades of purple! As I’m sure we all know purple is made out of blue and.. wait for it… red(!) so any shade of purple fits the bill perfectly. The red undertones in any purple shade really sit well against green eyes and help to bring them out with ease.
Espresso Liner: Black can be too harsh against the softness of green eyes so be sure to reach for an espresso brown color instead. “Espresso Brown” tends to be warmer than your standard brown and has hints of gold and copper in it which play off of the red undertones we’re so desperately seeking.
Heather Gray Eyeshadow: The undertone in heather grey is lavender which is in the purple family so I know I don’t need to explain why this is a perfect choice for green eyes. Use this in place of silver for a grown up frosted look. It gives an almost ethereal look – smoky and bright!
Copper/Terra-cotta: This one is probably the most obvious with its obvious ties to red undertones. Instead of reaching for straight red try going for reddish copper or terra-cotta colors instead. They are much more wearable than fire engine red, don’t you think?
Dark green (for light green eyes): Don’t be afraid to play up your green eyes by pairing them with a green eyeshadow. Tone on tone looks are absolutely stunning if they’re done correctly! If your eyes are on the light side reach for a dark emerald or forest green for a monochromatic smoky look.
Peach: I love peach eyeshadow against a variety of eye colors but think it looks especially pretty when paired with green eyes. Think of this the same way you would copper or terra-cotta; it still has an orange/red undertone but is much softer and more wearable. If you like the idea of copper but feel like it might be too bold try peach instead. You’ll love it!
