Today I’m going to share with you how I get my signature hairstyle: soft and shiny waves! The thing that I love most about wearing my hair like this is the fact that it is SO easy and when the right products are used you can maximize the results with very little effort. Who doesn’t love that?
Before I start my style I first shampoo and condition my hair with Dove Dry Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. This weightless shampoo is formulated with a blend of African Macadamia Oil and Coconut Oil which leaves my hair feeling SO soft and silky! It provides a great foundation for this sleek and smooth style because I don’t have to use a ton of different products to get smoothness and shine… This shampoo and conditioner has me covered on its own. These products are also great for all hair types!
To complete this style you’ll first need a few supplies:
- Dove Dry Care Shampoo, Conditioner, and Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment
- A curling iron or wand of your choice
- A brush or wide tooth comb
After I’m done washing my hair I apply one pump of the Dove Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment to my damp hair (keeping it away from my scalp) and then either let it dry naturally or power dry it with a blow dryer. Don’t worry too much about the blow drying because this style really comes together with the curling iron. Don’t stress yourself out! Just get your hair dry.
Once my hair is dry I’m ready to curl it! I take 1 to 2 inch sections (seen in box 1 below) and curl them away from my face all around my head. How long you leave the iron on each section will depend on the texture and density of your hair but a good rule to follow is to feel your hair while on the iron and remove it when hot. The key here is to make sure that the heat has saturated the section (otherwise you’ll get uneven curl) and once it’s hot on the outside you’re good!
After your entire head is curled wait 1-2 minutes (as seen in block two above) and let everything cool down. This actually ensures that the bonds of your hair are sealed in the curled position and will help prevent your style from collapsing prematurely. When the hair is warm those bonds are moldable (hence why we’re using heat to change the pattern of the hair) so you want to make sure that they’re cool before moving on.
Then… And this part sounds crazy… Take a wide tooth comb, a brush, your fingers, whatever you want and brush out the curls. Yes, your hair is going to look frizzy and yes, you might think I’m insane (clearly I think I’m crazy as indicated by my face in box 3!) but trust me! After your curls are brushed out take one pump of the Dove Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment and apply it all throughout your hair (again avoiding the roots). Brushing out the curls takes away those Shirley Temple ringlets and breaks them up into a gorgeous wave pattern. Following this up with the Dove Dry Oil smooths everything out and leaves you with a gorgeous shine.
