If you know me at all then you know that I am a TOTAL BABY when I’m sick. I don’t know why I can’t handle life during the few times each year when I’m down for the count but either way, I hate it and this hatred for being sick means that I’ve developed a perfect little kit of staples to get me through even the nastiest of colds.
Luckily I never get sick sick and instead just find myself suffering from the common cold a handful of times each year which means that my Cold Season Survival Kit is really focused more on making sure I’m comfortable than anything else (since the common cold isn’t curable and all).
Obviously I keep a box of tissues with me at all times but did you know that if you pick the tissues infused with lotion that your skin won’t get as irritated with the repeated nose blowing? I flat out REFUSE to buy “regular” tissues and have been known to send people back to the store when they come home with the wrong variety. It’s that serious.
Unfortunately, though, no amount of lotion tissues will completely protect your nose from becoming irritated and raw so that’s why I like to dab a little bit of Aquaphor on my nose throughout the day. It keeps my skin hydrated and provides a protective barrier against the elements. I might not look so cute while doing it but whatever, it works.
I also always have a lip balm (or 6) next to me at all times so it shouldn’t be a surprise that I make sure to have some close by when I’m suffering from a cold.
Staple products aside one of the first things I find myself reaching for when I’m sick is a hot mug of tea. I don’t know what it is about a piping hot cup of liquid but I swear it instantly makes me feel better. I’m personally a huge fan of the Tazo Awake English Breakfast tea because it’s not too strong and has a mild flavor which helps me drink it even when I don’t have an appetite.
I also make sure to have a bag (or 6) of Ricola throat drops around at all times because there is NOTHING worse than a sore throat – am I right? You guys know I carry these with me all the time no matter what my current health status is so it should come as no surprise that I keep my favorite little swiss herbs around with me when I’m under the weather. Formulated with real Swiss herbs the Ricola throat drops help to soothe my throat, suppress my cough, and make me feel like I could scream “Riiicooollllaaaaaaaa” from the top of my lungs. There are tons of options, too, depending on what symptoms you have (or which flavor your prefer). My favorite will always be The Original but Lemon Mint is good and the Honey Lemon with Echinacea is also delicious if you’ve never tried them and are feeling adventurous (you really can’t go wrong).
What products do you reach for when feeling under the weather? Comment below and let me know!
Until next time 🙂
