Wow… it’s been a hot second since I’ve posted, right?! All I’m going to say is this: Sometimes you just need to take a break. I’m back now, though, so I guess that’s what matters! Sometimes an unexpected hiatus can do wonders and I have to say that it was the best thing I could have done for myself and this site. But either way – let me stop babbling and get into it!
Next week I am going to Las Vegas for my first time ever! Unfortunately it’s for work so I won’t have a ton of time to experience all that Vegas has to offer but if we’re being honest I’m seriously looking forward to getting out of New York City for a bit so I can experience a change of scenery.
Any trip whether it be for pleasure or business turns me into a neurotic over-packer because I want to make sure that I have EVERYTHING I could possibly need… as if there won’t be any stores any of the locations I’d possibly travel to, haha. This time around I want to be practical while still covering all my bases so I thought it would be fun to show you a few of the things I’m bringing with me.
I don’t know what it is about lip products but I always want to pack ALL THE COLORS every time I’m away from my collection. It’s as if I suddenly will have this urge to wear a color I haven’t chosen in months and God forbid I’m without it when the mood strikes (this has never happened, by the way. I always stick to neutrals). So this time I’m making myself bring only four lip products: a punchy pink and three different nudes. I picked the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer in Nude Eclipse because it’s an easy one to toss in my bag and touch up on the go. It also feels hydrating on my lips so if I’m busy and want something fast and easy I know I can reach for it and not have to worry about anything. I’m also bringing my Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in Nude No 1. and my YSL Rouge Volupte in No. 2 (discontinued) so I can have all my nude lip bases covered. The Hourglass Stylo dries down to a matte finish while the Rouge Volupte stays very creamy and they actually layer very well together. I’m still fighting the urge to throw another color into the mix but I KNOW I probably won’t wear it.
I’m going to be working a LOT and then attending events after work in the evening so to say that I need my skin to be prepped and primed to perfection is an understatement. I’m packing my Vichy Idealia Eyes eye serum since it specifically targets tired-looking eyes and helps them look refreshed. I’m also making sure to bring my latest primer powerhouse: Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Primer for my eyes and my Cover FX Calming Primer for my foundation. I love the Smashbox primer because it helps my eyeshadow show true to color and truly makes it last all day (a must when I’m running around all day/night). I’m packing the Cover FX Calming Primer because it a) makes my makeup go on smooth and last all day and b) doesn’t irritate my skin in the slightest.
I’m from Florida (hello, humidity!) so to say that I’m super sensitive to dry air is an understatement. Since Las Vegas is in the middle of the desert I’m sure that I will experience an instant drying of my mouth/throat the second I’m off the plane. Pair that with the fact that I’m going to be talking to hundreds if not thousands of people all day every day and you can probably see why I pack throat drops with me. The Ricola® Extra Strength Cough Drops are perfect because they contain Chrüterchraft, the swiss herbs formulation that Ricola is known around the world for, but they also contain menthol and a soothing syrup center to really knock the cough out.
Do you want to win a trip for two to Switzerland? Trust me, if you didn’t say “YES” then you really should have… I’ve been and it’s probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in my life. Anyway, Ricola is giving you the chance to win a trip to Switzerland (or $500 if travel isn’t your thing) when you “Call In Well.” Calling in sick is so 2014… start this year off right by sharing with Ricola how you would spend a free day off from work and be entered to win! Full details on the sweepstakes can be found on the official Chruterchraft “Call In Well” page here.
My fragrance of the moment is Giorgio Armani “Si” and I am ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH IT. It has such a soft, feminie scent that can easily go from day to night. It has notes of Chypre, Blackcurrant Nectar, Airy Florals, and Musky Blond Wood and ugh – I can’t even talk about how amazing it is. If you’ve never smelled it then do yourself a favor and get a sample from Sephora RIGHT NOW. Usually when traveling I bring a fragrance for day and night because I’m that weirdo so the fact that I can wear Si around the clock makes it perfect for my trip.
This is going to sound weird but… I am the queen of not washing my hair. Give me a good dry shampoo (I love this one from Bumble and bumble. It’s coming with me for sure) and good styling products and I can go a week without having to get my hair wet. Redken’s Iron Shape 11 is my secret weapon when it comes to creating my beach waves and getting them to last more than 24 hours. Spray this on dry hair, iron it with a hot tool of your choosing, and you’re good to go! Heat protection + hold in one!
A few other things that I’m packing for sure are my LORAC PRO Palette, Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit, Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, and my Liberty Republic FAKE IT Eyelashes (I LOVE the Innuendo set). I’m pretty sure I’ve been wearing the LORAC PRO Palette exclusively for at least the last month (if not longer) so that’s obviously coming. I’m also making sure to pack my Laura Mercier foundation and concealer because I know I can count on it to give me the flawless coverage I need without having to worry about it fading mid-day since it lasts so long. And, I mean, I have to bring lashes because it’s VEGAS! Go big or go home, right? I love these by Jordan Liberty because they’re so lightweight and really blend into my natural lashes without looking too crazy or fake. I wore them on New Year’s Eve and fell in love with them all over again. They’re so good.
And that’s it! I feel like I’m forgetting something, of course, but luckily I’ve got about a week to nail down my perfect beauty kit so let’s cross our fingers that I figure it out between now and then, haha.
What staples do you bring when you’re traveling? Do you always want to pack a million lip colors and then only find yourself wearing one or two? Or is that just me? Comment below and let me know!

Until next time 🙂
